Vegan MoFo: Breaking Bad Tribute - and a Recipe!

TV Tuesdays - Yeah, bitch! As we approach the final three episodes in the series (EVER, you guys!), I can’t help but reflect on all of the mind-blowing and time-stopping moments the series has shown us, as well as the lengthy, existential conversations about relationships, betrayal, loyalty, greed, and so forth that have sprung from each and every episode. For serious: BB Analysis is one of my favorite social activities.

And with this very special Vegan MoFo, I could not have a TV Tuesday theme grace these pages without paying homage to The Best Series in the History of Television.

With many BB-themed parties out there serving blue rock candy or imposter Los Pollos Hermanos fried, dead bird parts... I needed to do something different. Enter: "Ricin Beans". How I wish I could have come up with such a brilliant idea - the idea was mentioned in an article somewhere on the interwebs. But here, I present a simple and spicy recipe!

"Ricin Beans"

1 cup brown rice
1 15 oz can of black beans, drained
1-2 leaves of kale, destemmed and ripped into small chunks
1 small can chipotle peppers in adobo sauce (I used Goya)
1 clove of garlic, chopped or pressed

Prepare the brown rice in a rice cooker or on the stove. While the rice is cooking, blend together the contents of the can of chipotle peppers until it is a thick sauce (this will leave plenty for leftover hot sauce!). Steam or wilt the kale in a skillet, with a few drops of water, with the pressed garlic for only a minute or so. Add the kale mixture and the black beans to the prepared rice. Mix in as much of the chipotle sauce as your taste buds can handle and enjoy!

To cool things down, top with a simple sauce of tahini and fresh lemon juice.
